This book was okay as the photos seem to capture some of the essence of the students of Deep Springs but I was hoping for more written details on what day to day life is like in Deep Springs College. Founded in , Deep Springs College is a unique institution of higher learning. The educational program is built upon three pillars: academics, student self-government, and manual labor. The school is located forty miles from Bishop, California on an isolated cattle ranch in Deep Springs Valley. Between twelve and fifteen students are. As students learning to be citizens of the world, many eventually go on to “a life of service” following the completion of a degree. Since Deep Springs is a two-year school, most everyone transfers to a more typical four-year institution, and Deep Springers are generally successful in their transfers. Courses at Deep Springs are intensive, student-driven, and small. Classes usually have between four and twelve students. In most courses, the majority of class time is spent in seminar-style discussions.
